John Petrus Talan
Biography: For the past two decades, Indonesia as well as global trend, has been experiencing rapid growth of urban transformation. The transformation of cities is dominantly driven by the market and the planning system is not able to become a rational element that controls so that this transformation is beneficial for all of cities inhabitants. Urban transformation is very close to market anarchy and powerless urban citizens; the urban poor, urban subsistence, workers, MSME actors, inter-regional immigrants, do not benefit from urban transformation and they are increasingly immersed in exploitative capitalistic relations. Currently his research interest is of developing innovative strategies towards spatial planning as a rational element to achieve urban sustainability.
